I talk with Professor Dominic McHugh on his book examining the works of Meredith Willson – The Big Parade: Meredith Willson’s Musicals from The Music Man to 1491.
Dominic McHugh is Professor in Musicology at the University of Sheffield. He is a scholar of the American musical on stage and screen. His books include volumes on My Fair Lady and The Wizard of Oz, as well as volumes of the letters and complete lyrics of Alan Jay Lerner. 2020 saw the publication of the well-received The Letters of Cole Porter and The Oxford Handbook of Musical Theatre Screen Adaptations, with The Big Parade: Meredith Willson’s Musicals from The Music Man to 1491 in 2021. The Oxford Handbook of the Hollywood Musical is released in summer 2022. He has also contributed chapters to The Oxford Handbook of the British Musical (on Noel Coward), The Palgrave Handbook of Musical Theatre Producers (on Feuer and Martin), The Routledge Companion to Music and Visual Culture (on Musicals), Sondheim From His Time to Ours (on Mary Poppins) and many others.
